Job Fairs
Management with substantial responsibility in making hiring decisions participated in the following job fairs during the preceding year:
1. Lane Community College Career Fair (April 22, 2009)
• Attending were Dave Wiles (Sales Manager), Jim Davis (KKNU Program Director), Jeff Baird (KEUG/KMGE Program Director) and Erin Massingham (Promotions Director)
Internship
This internship during July 2009 was designed to assist a member of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. The intern was a University of Oregon, School of Journalism and Communication student. This internship was structured to provide quality experience in all areas of MRB’s broadcasting operations, including sales, programming, commercial production, and included discussions with management. MRB personnel who participated in this internship were John Tilson, President and General Manager, Jim Davis, Program Director, KKNU, Bruce Soderholm, Production Manager, Bill Barrett, Tim Fox & Tracy Berry, KKNU Morning Show Personalities, Danielle Uhlhorn, Account Executive, Melissa Harrison, Billing & Accounts Receivables Manager, Debbie Bink, Traffic Manager, and Erin Massingham, Promotions Director.
Scholarship Programs
MRB management participated actively in the award of two Eugene Area Radio Stations (“EARS”) Scholarships. This scholarship program is designed to assist students interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting. These two $2,000 scholarships were awarded during the summer of 2009 to two high school students.
MRB’s involvement included a leadership role by MRB President and General Manager John Tilson and MRB Sales Manager Dave Wiles in successfully advocating, planning for, and implementing both of these scholarships. Mr. Tilson was the EARS Treasurer during the entire 2008/2009 EEO reporting year. The Unit stations also contributed air-time, which resulted in cash contributions for these EARS scholarships. As part of the Non-Commercial Sustaining Announcements (‘NCSA”) Program, EARS sells announcements at steep discounts to non-profit organizations and the Unit stations, along with other EARS members, run spot schedules for the non-profit advertisers.
